The album has been said to have a more "melodic and intimate" sound than past records, while also taking influence from grunge bands of the '90s. The album features collaborations with Brad Hargreaves of Third Eye Blind and Chloe Moriondo. ![]() The record was produced by Paul Meany and mixed by Adam Hawkins. Parts of the record, including single "Emergency Contact", were written in Herrera's home studio in Seattle. Fuentes spent a brief period living with MxPx vocalist and bassist Mike Herrera during the production of the album. The band began working on The Jaws of Life as early as 2018, with Vic Fuentes teasing new material on social media. Vocalist and guitarist Vic Fuentes later clarified that Mike Fuentes had not been part of the band since 2017, and that he would not be featured on their next album. This led to some controversy on social media, as well as confusion as to whether Fuentes had been reinstated as a band member. In April 2020, the band shared an at-home performance of their song "Hold On Till May" to their YouTube channel, featuring Mike Fuentes alongside the other members of the band. Following these allegations, the band announced that Fuentes would be stepping back from the band indefinitely. In November 2017, two women came forward on Twitter detailing allegations of sexual misconduct against drummer Mike Fuentes, including statutory rape and solicitation of nude photos of a minor. The band toured in support of the album from June 2016 until May 2017. In 2016, Pierce the Veil released their fourth album Misadventures, to critical acclaim. The third single, "Even When I'm Not with You", was released January 12, 2023. The album was announced November 11, 2022, along with the release of a second single, "Emergency Contact". The first single, " Pass the Nirvana", was released on September 1, 2022, marking the first piece of new material from the band since their 2016 album Misadventures. It is their first album to have a title track. The band parted ways with Fuentes in 2017, following allegations of sexual misconduct. ![]() This is the band's first album not to feature drummer Mike Fuentes, with Brad Hargreaves of Third Eye Blind filling in. You also can catch them live on tour this October with I Prevail and Neck Deep, so please head on over to PTV's official website to for a full list of tour dates. The Jaws of Life is the fifth studio album by American rock band Pierce the Veil, released on February 10, 2023. That one was Misadventures, and you are highly encouraged to read the review we got to do in advanced for it by clicking here. They have released two other albums since this one, one of which just came out on May 13 of this year. Anywhere is a good start, honestly, but I personally recommend starting here.Īs previously mentioned, Pierce The Veil has grown a lot since the release of this album, and that includes making new content. If you’ve never listened to them, this album would be a pretty good place to start. I consider all of our evil thoughts and desires that we are ashamed of to be perfectly natural.” Overall, this album is incredible and I would recommend it to anyone, regardless of how much they like PTV. In an interview with AP, Vic said, and I quote, “The selfish machine refers to the animal inside all of us that no one ever wants to admit is there. The song is about how people are selfish when it comes to live. “The Sky Under The Sea,” has steady drums and a damn good guitar riff. Vic actually said in an interview with AP that he wrote this song as a gift to his parents. It’s about how money can really fuck up people’s lives, and how love is the most important thing in life. “Million Dollar Houses (The Painter)” is a beautiful song. It’s fast, high energy, and the kind of song a band would play to get the crowd pumped up. The lyrics of this song really prove that Vic Fuentes writes from the heart, and that is one of the many reasons their work is so special. It’s a bit on the slower side, and in terms of the instruments, it is mostly dominated by piano and drums. “Stay Away From My Friends” is a personal favorite of mine. This song has a little bit of everything between the lyrics, the keyboard effects, and Jeremy McKinnon’s (A Day to Remember) aggressive guest vocals, it is just an amazing song, and definitely one of their best songs overall. “Caraphernelia” is one of their most popular songs and was the first real single for this album. ![]() Most of their songs only hint at them, but this track is a full feature of them. This song really brings out their Spanish roots. The album starts with a fast-paced and high energy track called “Besitos.” The opening guitar riff is insane, and honestly, this is the kind of song you could open a show with. PTV has grown a lot since this album, but this one is most definitely one of their most popular ones. Selfish Machines is Pierce The Veil's second album, which they originally released on June 22, 2010.
